The Sallie Mae Fund announces new director of state outreach
Marc Nivet to lead outreach efforts in NY and CA
RESTON, Va., May 26, 2004—The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, has hired Marc Nivet as director of The Fund’s outreach initiatives in New York and California.
In this capacity, he will help increase awareness of The Sallie Mae Fund’s various higher education access initiatives for students and families in both states. Nivet also will work with student-serving organizations to facilitate statewide efforts that focus on higher education access issues.
“Marc’s significant experience as an advocate for enrollment of underrepresented groups in higher education will be a tremendous asset for families in New York and California. We are hopeful that his outreach efforts and collaboration with other access organizations will help to lower the barriers to higher education for hundreds of families in both states,” said Susan Corsini, board chair of The Sallie Mae Fund.
Nivet’s appointment is part of The Sallie Mae Fund’s Project Access: New York and Project Access: California initiatives to help at-need students pursue their dreams of a higher education in both states. The Fund has recently undertaken similar state-focused initiatives in the District of Columbia and Florida.
Nivet earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in education from Long Island University. He has held various positions in education management during the past 10 years. Most recently, he was an associate executive director at the Associated Medical Schools of New York where he oversaw several programs designed to increase enrollment of minority students in the health professions.
Previously, he was the director of minority affairs for the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Nivet has presented on access and opportunity issues at numerous conferences and he has held board member and leadership positions at various diversity-focused organizations.
The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, achieves its mission—to increase access to a post–secondary education for America's students—by supporting programs and initiatives that help open doors to higher education, prepare families for their investment, and bridge the gap when no one else can.
