The Sallie Mae Fund Provides Assistance to Help Wisconsin's Tornado Victims
FISHERS, In., Sept. 8, 2005—The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, today presented a $15,000 check to the Stoughton Red Cross to assist relief efforts in the aftermath of the Aug. 18 tornado.
The tornado destroyed 89 homes and caused $44 million worth of damage as it ripped through the area. A Red Cross spokesperson said the additional funds will be directed toward clean-up efforts to help tornado victims throughout Dane County, Wis.
"The Sallie Mae Fund wants to do what it can to help victims recover from this natural disaster," said Lisa Mitchell, president, Sallie Mae's Central Region Sales Team. "These funds will help to immediately address crucial needs of those affected—our thoughts and prayers are with them."
The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, achieves its mission—to increase access to a post-secondary education for America's students—by supporting programs and initiatives that help open doors to higher education, prepare families for their investment, and bridge the gap when no one else can.
