Two Arnold High School students win Project Graduation scholarships from The Sallie Mae Fund

The Fund awards $12,000 in scholarships during safe graduation celebrations in partnership with local law enforcement, schools and community
Panama City, Fla., May 30, 2008—The Sallie Mae Fund presented $12,000 in college scholarships to students at six area high schools during “Project Graduation,” the all-night, drug-free, alcohol-free, and violence-free parties organized by local law enforcement agencies, schools, and volunteers.
At each high school celebration, The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, helped two graduating seniors pursue a college education by presenting a $1,000 scholarship. The Sallie Mae Fund has supported Project Graduation scholarships in the Panama City area for several years in conjunction with the community outreach efforts of Sallie Mae’s Panama City Loan Servicing Center.
Project Graduation provides a safe alternative to “party hopping”: it keeps graduates off of the roads, prevents any of them from becoming an accident statistic and allows their parents to rest easy knowing their son or daughter is safely celebrating.
“Thank you so much for the support not only for our school, but for the whole district,” said Deputy Thomas M. Ehlers of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, who coordinated the event at Arnold High School. “Everyone was pumped and excited about the scholarships!”
