Grammy winning singer, MTV news correspondent kick off campaign in Los Angeles

GRAMMY award-winning singer, Jon Secada, MTV news correspondent, Sway Calloway, and Los Angeles councilmember, José Huizar, joined members of The Fund at North Hollywood High School in Los Angeles to kick off the Los Angeles portion of The Fund's "$1 Million for Access" California initiative.
Almost half of The Fund’s support will go toward a Kids2College (K2C) program in partnership with the University of Southern California and California State University and will be implemented by the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute, a partner of The Sallie Mae Fund. K2C is a highly successful partnership program supported by The Fund which has been implemented in other parts of the country.

In addition to the media event at North Hollywood High School, The Fund initiated an exciting partnership with the Los Angeles affiliate of the Spanish-language TV station, Univision. Calls were answered at the Univision studio by Sallie Mae staff flown in from Sallie Mae's Texas servicing center, as well as by invited financial aid counselors from El Camino College, Orange Coast College, Santa Monica College, and Cal State University, Long Beach. The show logged more than 30,000 calls from students with questions about paying for college.
The success of the Univision event is very encouraging as it suggests that Sallie Mae Fund/Univision partnerships in other areas of the country might help to reach even more students with the “college is possible” message.
