United Way campaigns

Every year, The Sallie Mae Fund contributes approximately $12 million toward higher education access and other philanthropic endeavors. One of these initiatives is the annual United Way employee fundraising challenge through which The Fund matches employee donations one to one.

In 2005, total contributions from Sallie Mae employees and matching donations from The Sallie Mae Fund amounted to almost $900,000.

Sallie Mae employees raised money for 10 United Way agencies across the country during annual employee fundraising campaigns for United Way. Employees at Sallie Mae’s offices in Fishers, Ind. led the field, contributing more than $280,000 toward United Way of Central Indiana. This sizeable employee contribution from 54 percent of the Fishers’ workforce, together with The Fund’s matching grant, secured Sallie Mae-Fishers a place among the top 10 contributors to United Way of Indiana last year.
