Information campaign to support Virginia governor's education initiative

A new loan discount program announced in March by Governor Warner and Sallie Mae is designed to provide greater incentives for nursing and teaching students to seek their education and their careers in Virginia. The program was developed to combat the exodus of well-qualified teachers and nurses who have left in search of higher paying jobs.

As part of this initiative, The Sallie Mae Fund is engaged in statewide efforts designed to increase awareness about college financial aid. The Fund is providing free information about planning and paying for college across Virginia, distributing free financial aid information to high school and middle school guidance counselors, and conducting five financial aid workshops across Virginia in March.
