Grant to start endowment fund for Annual Fattah Conference on higher education

Keynote speaker, Dr Therman Evans, a 2005 CORE Philly scholarship recipient, and Congressman Chaka Fattah

Celebrating the 19th year of the Fattah Conference on Higher Education, The Sallie Mae Fund announced a $500,000 grant to start an endowment fund to ensure that the conference continues for years to come.

This regional information and scholarship conference has helped more than 10,000 minorities attain graduate degrees in its 19-year history. Founded in 1987 to help students who are attending Pennsylvania state institutions prepare for college, the conference focuses on academics, admissions and financial aid. Workshops for Philadelphia high school seniors and guest speakers further help to motivate and prepare attendees.

As conference sponsor, The Sallie Mae Fund conducted six of its popular free Paying for College workshops for more than 800 Philadelphia public high school students who attended the conference. High school students also heard about real life education experiences from students currently enrolled in graduate programs.
