Fall 2007 Access Report
New Scholarship Directories for Students and Families
Based on overwhelming demand from students and families for information on paying for college, the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute (TRPI) has expanded its annual Latino College Dollars Scholarship Directory nationwide. The new directory was made possible with grants from The Sallie Mae Fund, the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation, and the Walt Disney Company.
The National Latino Scholarship Directory (www.latinocollegedollars.org) offers information on more than 300 scholarships targeting Latino high school, undergraduate and graduate students across the United States. Students and families can search for scholarships by a variety of variables, including state, sponsoring organization, citizenship and GPA requirements. In addition, a guide on how to apply for scholarships in both Spanish and English is included in the directory.
Copies of the National Latino Scholarship Directory will be given to high school guidance counselors at low-income schools in five states with the largest Latino populations: California, Florida, Illinois, New York, and Texas.
A second scholarship directory, the National African-American Scholarship Directory (Black College Dollars), is scheduled for release this fall. Developed by the Pell Institute and underwritten by The Sallie Mae Fund, the National African-American Scholarship Directory will include financial resources for African-American students who are entering or continuing their postsecondary education.
Both directories will be distributed on The Sallie Mae Fund’s Paying for College Bus Tour. In addition, electronic versions will be available on this website.
